Perth, 30 September 2023 - Over 250 Rwandans and friends of Rwanda gathered in Perth, W.A., to celebrate Umuganura, Rwanda’s National Harvest Day, in a colourful ceremony attended by Mark Irwin, Mayor of the City of Stirling.
In his remarks, Mr Irwin hailed the celebration of Umuganura, which he described as a true embodiment of the values Australia stands for.
Participants were treated to a rousing cultural performance, combining songs and dances, and shared Rwandan food and beverages.
During the celebration, the Rwandan community in Perth reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding and transmitting the Rwandan culture to upcoming generations.
Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, Rwanda’s High Commissioner in Australia, with residence in Singapore, through a representative, urged the Rwanda community in Western Australia to add impetus to Rwanda’s development.
“While we are proud of our country's progress, we should not forget that we still have a long way to go. Today’s celebration should remind us of the journey ahead to achieve the development we desire as a nation", High Commissioner Uwihanganye said.
